Grappa
Grappa is a ‘marc’ brandy, i.e. a distilled spirit made from the grape skins that remain after the must (used to make wine) has been pressed. Produced exclusively in Italy from grapes harvested in Italy, grappa can come from any part of the country, but there are nine regions that benefit from a ‘Indicazione Geografica Tipica’, or special appellation: Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino, Alto Adige, South Tyrol, Barolo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Sardinia. Grappa is usually bottled without ageing at the minimum alcohol content of 37.5%, however, increasing numbers of aged versions are being produced.
